Walk into Our Kitchen is a cookbook filled with traditional Egyptian and Pakistani dishes. Included are recipes from around the globe. Created with a spin, each recipe is gluten, refined sugar free, and primarily dairy free. There are a few recipes that use ghee.
The cookbook includes 43 recipes. Sarah and Humaira included recipes for spices, sauces, appetizers, breakfasts, soups and salads, entrees, desserts, as well as beverages.
Included are tips on how to stay healthy during and after Ramadan for those observing the Holy month. Also provided is comprehensive information regarding macros, vegetables, fruits, dairy, and the importance of smoke point.
Sarah, a clinical nutritionist and Humaira, a naturopathic doctor wanted to provide alternatives to traditional dishes. As holistic practitioners, they incorporated healthier eating habits and traditional foods. As with any culture, food plays a big role, which should be held onto!
Instead of using boxed spice mixes, the two created spice blends made at home. These spices are preservative free and are shelf stable. Haleem, a dish that takes several hours is made alternatively in the Instant Pot, which allows for a shorter cooking time. Similarly, butter chicken is made in the Instant Pot. Designed to be flavorful and cooked in a short amount of time, the recipes are a good addition to weeknight meals.
This was a project Sarah and Humaira worked on for three years, growing it every Ramadan.
